How often do you update historic index? Thanks!

Hi, I wanted a little clarification on historic v/s fresh index. If a site has 100 backlinks in historic index, and 50 backlinks in fresh index, then, what will be the total amount of current (active) backlinks to site? 50 or 100? I’m jumbled up!

      Hi Jen,
Neither of the above scenarios! Fresh means URLS seen in the last 45 days. Some of these will be in the current index, and others won’t, because they are too new. Old links can (and should) be in the fresh index, however, many URLS in the historic index get so few inlinks themselves, that our crawlers rarely recrawl them. This means that the fresh index is a realistic view of “current URLS that people are likely to actually see”. Nothing is perfect, though.
