We’ve moved on from a time where anyone was able to own all major TLDs in their branded space. The explosion of new gTLDs, and private suffixes can give SEOs, Digital Marketers and Brand Protectors an overwhelming and expensive choice when it comes to domain names.

Which domain TLD should you use for a project? Should you perhaps consider a new local TLD like .london, .munich. or .tokyo for a physical store located in one of those cities? Could any of the free or low-cost TLD ecosystems negatively affect your brand? Are there any legacy backlinks that still point to older versions of the domain names you ae considering?

There are lots of questions, and while Majestic doesn’t claim to offer absolute answers, what we can do is give you an instant search tool to check your prefix across thousands of TLDs and suffixes. How is this different from a domain registrar?

Unlike registrar searches, the TLD Checker does not search for domain name availibility. We aren’t trying to sell domain registration, hosting, or droplist services. What we do is deliver an independent check of how the internet sees each returned domain name, without you having to write scripts to check every TLD version.

• How many links and other domains point to the site?
• Have we indexed many URLs on the domain?
• Does the homepage have a page title?
• What are the Trust Flow and Citation Flow scores?
• Does the domain have a Topical Trust Flow category?
• Did the homepage redirect to a separate domain the last time we crawled?

TLD Checker – Search by prefix to find TLD matches

TLD Checker is a domain prefix-based backlink intelligence tool. You choose a prefix, and we return data for all matching TLDs in our Fresh Index. Here is a screenshot of the results for the prefix, “archive”. Results are ordered by Citation Flow, which means the TLDs with the biggest quantitive footprint are shown first.

Filter and sort to home in on what’s interesting

Once you have your results, you can filter by TLD, or sort by any data column. This can be very handy when there are thousands of results. For example, here is the returned data for the prefix “majestic” with over 3,500 results!

You can sort by any of our data columns. In fact, while developing, we found that one of our favourite sorts is sorting by the “Redirect To” toggle. It’s a great way to discover which of your domains of interest are forwarded to other places.

Choose a TLD to see the top 5 sites

If you find an interesting TLD that you haven’t used before, you may want to know what type of sites are using that suffix. We’ve added a popup window to help.

Simply click on the button in the first column for this window. It contains the top five sites from that TLD, as seen by the Majestic Million.

A link at the bottom will let you see all of the Majestic Million domains for that TLD (if there are any).

Export or send to Bulk Backlinks for more data

Another way to sort through the many pages of data is to either send the top results to Bulk Backlinks, or export a CSV of the entire data set for offline process, both of these are just a button press away.

And as an added bonus your export will contain all the data columns you usually receive from a Bulk Backlinks search, not only the ones you see on the initial TLD Checker data table.
