Is this why there was a big jump in a lot of sites External Back Links over the last month?
March 5, 2013 at 1:40 pmIt’s possible our crawlers found more links, but one needs to bear in mind that historical index right now includes data up to 5 Feb, and since link charts are done on monthly basis in historical index the most recent month is extrapolated based on available data. It is therefore possible that it just so happens that lots of links were found in the first 5 days of the month and extrapolation assumes that would continue for full month.
March 5, 2013 at 1:47 pm> I don’t use the historic index, I store back links data in excel sheets and a bunch of my clients had fairly steady External back links for over a year then suddenly there was a jump from 2-5x as high as it has ever been. Never seen so many URLs have a sudden jump before.
March 5, 2013 at 8:35 pmIf you are referring to current data in fresh index then increase in found links is due to our increased level of crawl. One way to look at data in backlinks history charts is by using Normalized mode – it shows how many links were found per 1 mln of crawled pages, this can help smooth the effect of different crawl levels in different days.

"checking my page" < Well if you check yor [age on our system, we of course will give you data about your page on our system. If you are saying you are checking on a search engine, we do not check search results and never have.
March 6, 2013 at 5:32 pmNice one. I couldn’t add a comment on the appropriate blog post so mind me asking a question. in your keyword checker tool, why search volumes are so low, for example for keyword “seo” I’m getting only 67 searches… I guess I’m missing something or?
March 8, 2013 at 8:30 pmHi, the search volume is very rough relative number from 0-100, from this point of view 67 is pretty high. This number is not meant to replace up to date information that can be received from dedicated keyword analysis services because the main reason for our keyword checking is to provide data from our own database in number of times it is found in URLs/Titles/AnchorText.
March 8, 2013 at 8:34 pm67 is a score out of 100 as an idea of competitiveness. We do not have exact numbers.
