We’re delighted to share with you our new “Topics” tab in Site Explorer. From today subscribers can start to fully explore and drill into the individual Trust Flow topics that arrive at any website, domain, or URL.

The all-new Topics tab is a great way to check and categorise the incoming external backlinks to any site.

For most users, the Topics link will appear between the ‘Summary’ and ‘Ref Domains’ tabs. If you have customised your Site Explorer tabs, it’ll be at the end of the tab order.  

This great tab shows every piece of Topical Trust flow that’s coming into your site from external backlinks. Beside the topic name, there are three data columns…

  • External Backlinks: A count of the number of topical backlinks that arrive at the relevant site/domain/URL.
  • Linked from Referring Domains: A count of all backlinks (whether or not they are topical) that arrive from topical domains.
  • Referring Domains: A count of the topical domains that point to the site/domain/URL.

The table is sortable, and filterable. You can drill in to each topic to find out the top ten results, and it’s really easy to download the top 100 items from each and every topic, for your own spreadsheets or reports.

Drilling into a Topical Trust Flow

To help find the source of a specific Topic, we’ve beefed-up our URL cog action menu. The menu now has a title to confirm which URL you’re working with so you can jump straight to the Topics tab of a URL on the page; (as well as some of the other popular Site Explorer tabs). This makes it really easy to run along a topical chain of URLs.

A regular request over the last six weeks has been to publish a list of all topics. We’re still tweaking, so we don’t want to put a definitive list out there yet, but if you look at a huge site like Facebook, or Google, you’ll see almost every topic in the current list.

One last thing to note, is that the Topics tab only sorts through external backlinks, so you may see some differences with the Topical Trust Flow banner on the Summary tab, as that figure aggregates both internal and external links.

Full Topical Trust Flow is available to all subscribers, no matter which plan you use.

Anchor Text

We haven’t just worked on the Topics tab. In Anchor Text you’ll now see the primary Topical Trust Flow for each different piece of anchor text. This should be a huge help to make sure that your text is placed with a contextually appropriate backlink. For instance, you can make sure that your “credit card” anchor text is coming from sites and external backlinks that carry a high Trust in “Home / Personal Finance.”

    Too many times, the anchor text is truncated in your tables 🙁
    I must point the cursor on it to see the whole anchor text.
    Why don’t you display it on 2 or 3 lines if it’s too large for one line?

      With really data-intensive tables, it’s usually best to make sure that everything lines up, and row heights are consistent. It makes it easier to scan down to the item that you’re after.

      But, I do think that you’re right. We’re truncating too much in some places.

      I’ll see what we can do to find a better balance before our next release.

    The “Topics” tab is another useful metric to further give you an idea if a particular topic is heavily themed based on the TF. I also know that a low TF doesn’t necessarily mean that its a worthless domain, but instead you should dig deeper and look at the individual backlinks for the overall quality of that domain. I am leaning towards Majestic over the other “competitors” tools….glad your introducing new features.
