This weekend, our team sponsored a local Hackathon, which was awesome! Students turned up from all over the UK to start blending data and ideas into the wildest things.

From Robotics to 3d headsets – we were really excited to see just how much talent there is in the UK when it comes to computing. The winning team came up with a very cool visual way of comparing profiles through nodes. Other teams turned our data into battling figures, a fun looking game where you try to disconnect all the links to websites around the world and impressively a website that let’s you see how much you can (or can’t) trust the candidates at the forthcoming general elections in the UK to represent the topics important to you.

It was our first foray into the world of Hackathons and one we will not forget in a hurry. The enthusiasm of the teams was great and even our own dev team – who spent most of the weekend on hand to help the students – found the time to try a little idea that may just get into our road-map one day.

Thanks you to everyone that was involved.

The Legacy

On the surface, sponsoring an event like this seems unlikely to do much for our business – but it really is a great chance for Majestic to help invest in Britain’s technology youth. Who knows… maybe in a few years one of those students will be in a large organisation, faced with a critical business challenge that Majestic’s data can solve.
