One of the big advantages of Majestic is that we can show you an analysis of your competitor’s backlink information. How? Either through the Site Explorer, within the reports, or via a number of our tools. Tools such as the Backlink History, Comparator and Clique Hunter to name a few!
Our newest update is designed to help you complete your comparative analysis much faster and easier as we have collated the most useful comparison tools and made it much simpler to guide through each of them.
Start by selecting ‘Compare’ on the homepage and then input up to 5 different domains, ideally your site and then choose 4 of your biggest competitors and then of course, which index you wish to use. In our example we are using the top 5 search engines, Google, Bing, Ask, AOL and Yahoo.
The first step is checking the ‘Summary’. You may recognize this as the Comparator tool. Here, you can see the headline statistics of all the domains you entered. Which domain has the highest Trust Flow? Who has the most number of links? How many Educational domains are linking to them?
The coloured bars in the tool helps you to identify which one out of the 5 sites is edging forward, just with a quick glance. Here we can see that Google is dominating the other search engines.
Selecting ‘Backlink History’ takes you straight through to the second tool using the same 5 domains you previously entered making the transition more seamless and easy. You can see in the chart below, who exactly has been getting the most number of new links. You can change this from a daily, monthly, cumulative or normalised view. We can see in our example, Google is a cut above the rest with the highest number of new links acquired daily, shown in the top graph. The bottom graph highlights the number of new referring domains, which of course, Google is also dominating. Try switching between chart types to see the data in a different view.
The next tab ‘Topics’ can be used to analyse those domains at a deeper level, by looking at their Topical Trust flow. By being able to see the categories affecting the site, you can judge who the influencer in that industry is.
In our example we can see that while most domains are players in a large number of the topics, it would appear that more people turn to Yahoo, Bing and AOL for their news. While gamers seem to lean towards Google and AOL.
The ‘Clique Hunter’ is a fantastic tool that can ultimately help you with link prospecting tasks as well as competitor analysis. This tool can now compare 10 domains, so to add more just select the ‘+ add more domains’ button in the top right.
This tool will be showing you the ‘clique’ that has link from a list of domains. Meaning you can see which domains are already linking to your competitor’s sites, but have yet to establish a link with your own site.
See the domain matches to see how many of your competitors have links incoming from a specific domain. Use the drop down menus found at the top of the page to change the order of the data dependant on what is the most important factor for you.
*TIP* Order by Matches Ascending and Trust Flow Descending to give you the optimum list showing you the best quality domains linking to your competitors.
Finally, check which domains you entered is featured in our ‘Majestic Million’, a list of the world’s top million domains.
